by Elisha Sarti

ARTIST: Elisha Sarti
MEDIA: Collage and acrylic on recycled paperboard
SIZE: Approx. 7 x 7 feet

The imagery in this piece and its sister ENVY(Printed Line) was derived from bits and pieces of the materials used to make it - saved junk mail and flattened paperboard boxes that once contained food or other goods. The row of "portraits" along the bottom right are of local used car salesman whose smiling face appear quite often in the artist's mailbox. The artist depicted the scary-looking poultry in the upper left in a bright unnatural pink as an homage to how much she loves the imperfections found in cheap mass printing - like that done for grocery store circulars. Paper scraps salvaged from this large work were used to create surfaces for Elisha's small round paintings - the Junkmail2 series.

This piece was part of the SAVE/PRODUCE show at NOWhere Limited Gallery, on view August 2 - 24, 2008.
